Product Design Mentor

I’ve been mentoring designers for over five years, through Designlab and ADPList, across entry-level through to mid-career. More than a hundred students so far, across UX Academy, UI Design, and Design 101.

What I actually do in sessions: look at your work properly, tell you what’s working and what isn’t, and push you to understand why, not just what to change. The feedback is honest and specific. The sessions are useful rather than polite.

What students say

“He never just told me what was wrong - he pushed me to think through the ‘why’ and find my own solutions. I came out of the program a much stronger designer thanks to his mentorship.”

Alice C, UX Academy

“He always took the time to understand where I was struggling and challenged me to think more critically about my design decisions while creating a supportive environment where I felt comfortable asking questions.”

Maya A, UX Academy

“I came into DesignLab with a huge case of imposter syndrome, but Charlie helped me reframe that as a positive thing. Each meeting left me with renewed confidence in myself and my developing design abilities.”

Leslie M, UX Academy

“His feedback was always clear, practical, and really helped me think more deeply about my design decisions. He went beyond just the course content - sharing extra resources, tools, and ways of thinking that were genuinely useful in the real world.”

Abhay R, UX Academy

“Charlie provided helpful and encouraging feedback throughout the course. He even chose to continue as my mentor after accepting a new position and becoming busier, which I appreciated, and it showed me that he cares about his students.”

Hannah S, UX Academy Foundations

Who I work with

Entry-level and junior designers building their process and portfolio. Mid-level designers navigating career decisions or tackling more complex product problems. Designers who want to understand AI development workflows, not just use AI as a shortcut.

If you’re serious about levelling up and willing to do the work, the sessions will be worth it. If you’re looking for someone to validate whatever you’ve already decided, probably not the right fit.

How it works

Two routes depending on what you need.

ADPList - book individual sessions directly. Sessions run from 20 minutes to 60 minutes depending on what you’re working on. Options include UX career pathfinding, product strategy, AI design workflows, and self-study support. Prices from free to $90 per session.

Designlab - structured mentoring as part of UX Academy, UX Academy Foundations, UI Design, or Design 101. If you’re enrolled or considering enrolling, you can request me as your mentor.

Both routes get the same quality of attention. The difference is structure: ADPList is flexible and on-demand, Designlab is built around a programme with regular touchpoints.

ADPList sessions

UX Career Pathfinding & Mentoring - 45 minutes - $75
Product Strategy Deep Dive - 60 minutes, fortnightly across 2 sessions - $90
Self-Study UX Mentoring Support - 45 minutes - $75
AI Design Workflows & Automation - 60 minutes - $90
Product Idea Refinement - 20 minutes - Free

FAQ

Do you only work with designers at the beginning of their career?
Mostly entry to mid-level, though the AI design workflow sessions attract people at all levels who want to understand the Figma-to-code pipeline properly rather than just dabbling with tools.

What should I bring to a session?
Actual work. The sessions are most useful when there’s something real to look at, a portfolio piece, a brief, a design challenge you’re stuck on, a career decision you’re weighing up. Vague conversations about “getting into UX” are harder to make useful.

Can I book more than one session?
Yes. The Product Strategy Deep Dive is structured as a fortnightly pair. For other session types, you can rebook as often as suits you.

Do you mentor on Designlab full-time?
No. Designlab mentoring runs alongside my freelance design practice and the Flux courses. I take on a limited number of students at a time.

Good feedback is the thing most designers say they’re not getting. That’s what the sessions are for.
